How is Inmate Connection different from other pen pal sites?
Most sites charge the inmate or their family to be listed. We flip the model — listing is free for families, and people who want to make contact pay a small unlock fee. That makes it more accessible and less exploitative for incarcerated people and their families.
Does the inmate know when someone unlocks their profile?
Currently profiles are managed by family members and the notification process is handled outside the platform. We're working on notification features for future updates.
How do I cancel a subscription?
You can cancel anytime directly from the email receipt you receive from Stripe after payment. There are no cancellation fees or penalties.
How long does profile review take?
Free listings are typically reviewed and approved within 24 hours. We manually verify submissions to ensure the platform stays accurate and trustworthy.
What information is visible for free?
Anyone can see the inmate's first name, photo, and state. For profiles with photos, the last name is blurred to protect privacy. The full name, facility, mailing address, and inmate ID are only visible after unlocking.
Can I request a profile be removed?
Yes. Email us with the request and we'll review it promptly. We take privacy seriously and will remove listings when there is a legitimate reason to do so.
